The red wedding. On the rag. Aunt Flo. Uncle Tom. The Red Sea. The crimson wave. Have the painters in. On the blob. Code Red. Time of the month. The English have landed. Winter is coming.
Just some of the names women use monthly to talk in code about the fact that we’re on our period. As well as dealing with PMS, cramps, running out of sanitary products, having to actually pay for sanitary products, legging it to the bathroom 800 times a day, back pain, hormonal acne, mood swings and the fucking EFFORT of being nice to people while shedding our uterus lining, we’re also not supposed to say we are on our periods.
“Even though yiz are literally bleeding scarlet, don’t make the lads feel scarlet, ladies.”
Well, we say ENOUGH of the mort over periods. We’re sick of the patriarchal bullshit and were gonna start ranting about our rags. So much so that we started a podcast about it called Rag Against The Machine.
Rag Against The Machine consists of Scarlet Brigade writer Kaz (That’s me, yo!) and full time scarlet queen, Grainne. We’re gonna be chatting and ranting with guests about all things periods and patriarchy.
The most shocking thing we’ve learned while doing this was 1) listening back to your own voice is chilling and 2) how little education we have around menstruation and women’s health in general.
So, we also got a doctor on to educate our asses (episode 5).
Episode 1 & 2 are now up for Rag Against The Machine and you can listen on iTunes here: https://itunes.apple.
Go easy on us right, we were locked in episode 1.
