Just over two months ago, we were almost dead from the scarlet due to Ireland’s 8th amendment. We decided we wanted to do something about it, despite the fact that we’re not in Ireland at the moment, which is where the idea of the global gatherings came about. We knew as Irish diaspora, that there had to be others like us who were feeling disconnected from this very important fight back home, and plenty of others, Irish or not, who feel passionately about women’s rights who would be happy to support this cause.
What we didn’t know was the world was ripe for repeal, and ye were all fucking ready to show it!
What happened over the coming weeks was overwhelming and unbelievably inspiring. Some truly sublime people joined us and through dedication and passion, we all worked together to create a global stand against Ireland’s barbaric treatment of women.
On septmeber 24th, 25,000 people marched the streets of Dublin (organized by the INCREDIBLE abortion rights campaign) and 30 cities around the world stood up and demanded one thing: to repeal the 8th amendment.
